St Veronica is reputed to have wiped the brow of Christ with her veil, which then became imprinted with an image of his face. In art she’s often depicted holding up the miraculous veil, which to modern eyes makes it look like she’s a market trader with a job lot of Jesus-themed tea towels to shift.
